Thornton Tomasetti creates new strategic roles

International engineering firm Thornton Tomasetti has promoted Carol A. Post, P.E., S.E., LEED AP, based in the firm’s Chicago office, to chief quality assurance officer. The move comes along with other promotions and appointments to three newly created positions; Gary F. Panariello, Ph.D., P.E., S.E. and Peter DiMaggio, P.E., SECB have been named managing director while Robert K. Otani, P.E. LEED AP BD+C becomes the firm’s first chief technology officer and principal.

“These newly created positions reflect the evolving nature of Thornton Tomasetti’s business and our commitment to meeting the current and future needs of our clients,” said Thomas Z. Scarangello, P.E., chairman and CEO of Thornton Tomasetti. “While different in scope and responsibility, these four roles will foster increased knowledge sharing and creative teamwork across the firm’s 10 practices. With Thornton Tomasetti’s deep talent bench and the strength of our collaborative business model, we are well on our way to reaching our goal to be the global driver of change and innovation in our industry.”

The transition to chief quality assurance officer is a natural one for Post, who has served as a leader in the firm’s standards and quality assurance/quality control committees and has played a key role in the development of the QAQC protocol in the structural engineering practice. Post has more than 30 years of structural engineering experience across a range of project types and market sectors.

Reporting to Thornton Tomasetti’s board, she will oversee and manage QAQC protocols so that the firm’s broad, innovative work continues to be a model for collaborative excellence. She will also interface externally with industry professionals and organizations to ensure that Thornton Tomasetti’s program meets or exceeds industry established best practices. Post holds a master’s degree in structural engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Northwestern University.
