Women's march shines light on diversity in CRE

When hundreds of thousands of people pack into Chicago’s Grant Park on Saturday, January 18 as part of Women’s March 2020, the supporters will be stumping several progressive issues, including climate change, gun violence prevention and women’s health rights and access. Another vocal message, however, will be a call for more diversity in the hiring practices of CRE firms and the wider business community.

ATG joins American Title Reinsurance Alliance

Chicago-based Attorneys’ Title Guaranty Fund, Inc. (ATG) has become the tenth member of the American Title Reinsurance Alliance (ATRA). ATRA secures reinsurance coverage via eight A through A+ rated Lloyds of London syndicates led by the Beazley syndicate. ATRA was formed in January 2012 to provide a secure source of reinsurance for large transactions for regional title insurers. The ATRA arrangement gives ATG the ability to insure transactions up to $500 million with the backing of the top title reinsurance syndicates in London.

St. Louis' Kwame Building Group tackling convention center addition

St. Louis-based Kwame Building Group has begun work on the $1.8 billion addition to the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, Washington. As a subconsultant to the Clark-Lewis Joint Venture team, KWAME’s role is to augment the project’s quality assurance and quality control staff. The 1.4-million-square-foot expansion is expected to complete in 2021 and open for events in 2022.

State Street that great street? Chicago Loop Alliance and Site Design Group will release first plan for the retail corridor in over 30 years

Chicago Loop Alliance is producing a State Street Corridor Plan, to be released in fall 2020. Urban design and architecture firm Site Design Group, Ltd. was selected from a competitive pool of applicants to create the plan, which will include recommendations on character, aesthetics and infrastructure; public space; transportation and mobility; connectivity; retail and business mix and technology—all with an emphasis on community engagement.

McCarthy Building Companies has completed construction of the St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station, a 120,000-square-foot, two-story attraction built inside the footprint of a nearly 500,000-square-foot 19th century iron umbrella train shed designated a National Historic Landmark. The grand-opening was Christmas Day 2019.
