Developers haven’t been shy about building luxury apartments in the centers of dense urban areas. Retailers are building distribution centers and warehouses closer to the center of these same big cities. And restaurateurs? When they want to make a big splash, they open in a downtown neighborhood. Why? It’s because urban areas are booming today.

International engineering firm Thornton Tomasetti has promoted Carol A. Post, P.E., S.E., LEED AP, based in the firm’s Chicago office, to chief quality assurance officer. Panariello, Ph.D., P.E., S.E. and Peter DiMaggio, P.E., SECB have been named managing director while Robert K. Otani, P.E. Chicago-based real estate investment firm Franklin Partners has hired James Cleary as portfolio project manager, in a role that includes chief engineer management responsibilities across the firm’s Illinois buildings. In this new role, Cleary will oversee all capital and tenant improvement projects, participate in due diligence for future asset acquisitions, supervise engineering new hires for future assets, and coordinate the development of best practices for building engineers throughout the firm and its buildings.
