Mortenson, a U.S.-based, top-20 builder, developer and provider of energy and engineering services, has promoted Andy Stapleton to general manager of its Chicago office. Stapleton will work with Mortenson senior vice president Greg Werner in overseeing local operations for the company.
Stapleton started his career with Mortenson in 1995 as a member of the company’s advanced technology group, building three consecutive projects for Seagate Technology in Minneapolis and Northern Ireland. His background and expertise in mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems led to critical roles on many important projects for Mortenson, including the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.
Stapleton joined Mortenson’s Chicago office in 2003 as an MEP engineer and supported several successful projects for long-standing customers, including Delnor Community Hospital, St. Alexius Medical Center and Lurie Children’s Hospital. He is a LEED accredited professional and has worked on numerous projects totaling over $1.1 billion.

During his tenure, Stapleton also led the Chicago business development team as the director of business development. He was involved in the acquisition of many notable projects, including the QTS Chicago Data Center, Union Station Renovations, Big Ten Experience, United Airlines Data Center, Microsoft DM2 Data Center, College of Lake County and the design-build University of Chicago Campus North Residential Commons. Stapleton most recently led Mortenson’s work in the mission critical market.
He currently serves on the Development Council for Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital. Stapleton earned a bachelor’s degree in construction engineering from Iowa State University.
