Each year, Midwest Real Estate News runs its Midwest Commercial Real Estate Hall of Fame, highlighting the careers of the most successful CRE pros in our region. This year, we are also running those profiles online. Today, we look at the busy career of Anthony Delguyd, managing director of Hanna Commercial Real Estate in Cleveland.

Years in the business: 35

A rare feat: Anthony Delguyd has achieved a rare accomplishment: He first carved out a successful career with Goodyear-Dunlop, one that culminated in his long tenure as global director of real estate assets. He then built a second career in commercial real estate as a global corporate services provider, one that has included the 2014 NAIOP Industrial Transaction of the Year award.

A long career: Delguyd has worked in commercial real estate for more than 30 years, with 25 of them spent in the corporate area. He is responsible for boosting the operational efficiencies, business development, transaction management and portfolio optimization for Hanna Commercial’s Fortune 1000 and Middle Market clients. He’s thrived in this role thanks to his ability to build relationships with his clients and outside partners.

While serving as director of real estate for The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and Pep Boys, Delguyd led 25 associates and managed more than 3,000 properties in support of the company’s global real estate portfolio.

“I enjoy the variety,” Delguyd said. “There is always something new and challenging. As a corporate real estate provider, you can work on distribution centers and manufacturing plants while negotiating a new corporate HQ, all for different clients.”

The honors: With such a long career, it’s not surprising that Delguyd has earned many industry awards. Several major real estate publications have recognized Delguyd as a national leader in corporate real estate. These publications include Corporate Real Estate Leader, Site Selection, Corporate Real Estate Executive and Corporate Real Estate Strategies.

Delguyd was also named a CoreNet Real Estate Executive of the Year in 2003 and nabbed the 2014 NAIOP Industrial Transaction of the Year award for a $34 million lease transaction.

The keys to success: Delguyd credits several mentors early in his career with helping him grow his business and knowledge. He also said that being able to understand the needs of his clients has helped him succeed.

“It’s critical to understand that real estate is a major vehicle to drive the business needs,” Delguyd said. “My experience at the corporate level has enabled me to share this knowledge with clients. Clients are very appreciative to have a sounding board that can translate the real estate obstacles into business terms.”

Out-of-office hours: When not serving his clients, Delguyd enjoys wine-making, vacationing with his wife and friends and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
