Kraus-Anderson director named to workforce innovation board

Tim Mayer, director of talent acquisition with Minneapolis-based Kraus-Anderson Companies, has been appointed by the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners to serve on the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Board in the Private Sector Business role.

Signed into law in 2014, WIOA is designed to strengthen and improve the nation’s public workforce system and help get Americans, including youth and those with significant barriers to employment, into high-quality jobs and careers, and help employers hire and retain skilled workers. Congress passed the Act by a wide bipartisan majority; it is the first legislative reform of the public workforce system in 15 years.

Appointed members advise county commissioners on issues and programs, help set policy, and deal with a variety of topics of concern to the county. Duties and responsibilities of the Hennepin-Carver WIOA Board include:

• Propose, develop and study innovative programs to provide employment opportunities for unemployed persons in suburban Hennepin County and Carver County;

• Analyze needs for employment, training and related services within the workforce Service Area;

• Submit recommendations to the Hennepin County Board and State of Minnesota regarding program plans and basic goals, policies and procedures; and

• Monitor and objectively evaluate employment and training programs conducted within the Workforce Service Area.

Mayer oversees Kraus-Anderson’s end-to-end recruiting and hiring program, which strategically attracts top talent for KA’s immediate needs and builds a pipeline for future needs as the company grows.

Mayer received a B.A. in History from Saint John’s University, Collegeville, Minn., and an M.A.in Human Resources and Industrial Relations from University of Minnesota’s Industrial Relations Center at the Carlson School of Management.
