Kansas City's Swope Community Builders closes merger, name change

Swope Community Builders, a 501(c)(3) Community Development Corporation with nearly 30 years of mission-based development experience, has merged with Blue Hills Community Services. The company has changed its name to Community Builders of Kansas City (CBKC).

As Kansas City’s largest urban core developer, the organization works to reclaim neighborhoods by developing quality housing and related services. Since 1991, CBKC has developed more than $225 million of urban renewal projects in Kansas City.

“Merging with Blue Hills Community Services provides additional opportunities to collaborate with stakeholders, maximize synergies and ultimately increase investment in vital Kansas City communities,” said Art Chaudry, president and chief executive officer of CBKC.

“Joining forces with Swope Community Builders honors and extends a 44-year-old commitment of revitalizing communities, improving neighborhoods, and enhancing the quality of life for Blue Hills and surrounding communities,” said Edgar Palacios, executive director of Blue Hills Community Services.

Effective May 31, the merger ensures that BHCS’ assets will continue to serve the community. The newly combined organization will be headquartered at 4001 Blue Parkway in Kansas City, Missouri, in the heart of the Brush Creek Corridor, anchored among one of its signature development projects.
