Mark Long has been unanimously elected as president and chief executive officer of Kansas City’s Newmark Grubb Zimmer. The move became effective Jan. 1.

Long succeeds chief executive officer Ellen Darling and president David Zimmer. Going forward, Darling will serve as chairman and Zimmer as vice chairman on Newmark Grubb Zimmer’s board of directors. Additionally, Zimmer will continue his brokerage practice.

This appointment marks the first time in Zimmer’s 70-year history that a non-family member will hold the president and chief executive officer title.

“It has been a privilege to be part of the NGZ team for my entire real estate career and I have been fortunate to have been associated with the Zimmer family,” Long said in a statement. “Our firm has benefited greatly from their vision, and their leadership in our industry and community. Our goal moving forward is to continue our long-standing position as one of the areas most respected and most active real estate companies.”

Long joined Newmark Grubb Zimmer upon graduating with honors from Rockhurst University in 1995. He was named as director of sales and leasing in April of 2003. Long is a member of the firm’s executive management team. He has been involved in more than 700 transactions representing more than $1 billion dollars in transaction volume.
