DeSimone Consulting Engineers recently added two industry veterans to the firm’s expanding structural engineering practice in Chicago. John Viise, who joins the firm as a managing principal, and Eric Fenske, who comes aboard as an associate principal, will serve clients in both the surrounding Midwest region and abroad in the design and development of high-rise structures.

Viise’s most recent work in Chicago includes 900 W. Randolph, a 500-foot-tall condominium tower that achieved a slender form without the need for costly outriggers, as well as work on the Lincoln Yards project. His portfolio of work in the Gulf Region includes The Burj Khalifa, a 2,717-foot tower in Dubai; a proposed 3,280-foot residential building known as The Dubai One Tower; the 1,250-foot Burj Mohammed Bin Rashid tower at the Abu Dhabi World Trade Center and Dubai’s Al Wasl Plaza, which consists of a steel trellis spanning 492 feet surrounded by two hotel buildings and three office towers.
Fenske brings with him more than 17 years of experience in the design of high-rise buildings, mixed-use developments, exhibition halls and specialty structures. His previous experience in Chicago includes 110 N. Wacker, a 51-story, 800-foot-tall office building on the Chicago River; New City, a 1.7 million-square-foot, multi-building development spanning eight acres and a multi-phase residential development known as Lakeshore East, which includes a 444,000-square-foot, 38-story tower, and a 536,000-square-foot, 46-story tower.
Fenske’s international experience includes the 62-story Hanking Center Tower in Shenzhen, China, the country’s tallest steel building and the tallest detached core structure in the world; the VietinBank Business Center Office Tower, a 3.2-million-square-foot development that includes a 68-story office building and an adjacent 48-story mixed-use building and the Abu Dhabi World Trade Center, a mixed-use development that includes the 88-story Burj Mohammed Bin Rashid residential tower, a 53-story hotel and a 58-story office building.
