Dawveed Scully appointed to Chicago mayoral transition team

SOM senior urban designer Dawveed Scully was appointed to City of Chicago Mayor-elect Lori Lightfoot’s transition team. Scully was appointed to the business, economy and neighborhood development committee, alongside leaders from institutions and organizations from across Chicago. The committee will play a vital role in shaping key objectives and goals for the new administration.

An architect and urbanist based in SOM’s Chicago office, Scully is passionate about using design as a tool for empowerment and collaboration among local residents, stakeholders and government for equitable design outcomes. His portfolio includes a variety of neighborhood-focused urban design projects throughout Chicago, including in Woodlawn, 63rd and Cottage Grove, the South Shore Corridor, the Village of Robbins, the Michael Reese Hospital site redevelopment and others on the City’s South Side.

His experience also includes neighborhood-focused projects in Milwaukee, Detroit and Atlanta. Scully serves on the board of the nonprofit Bronzeville Urban Development, and has served as a design studio instructor at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Lightfoot was elected in a historic vote in April 2019, and will serve as Chicago’s first African American, openly gay female mayor. She will take office in May 2019.
