Two senior housing communities open in Chicago’s North Park and West Side

Two affordable senior housing communities, totaling 183 units, opened in August in Chicago’s North Park and West Side, according to a statement from the mayor’s office.

Michael J. Fitzgerald Apartments, a new 63-unit building for seniors, opened on 1.65 acres of city-owned land at 5801 N. Pulaski Road in North Park Village nature Center. The $19.3 million complex consists of one-bedroom units that are designed for independent seniors. Amenities include a lounge, library, community rooms and a staffed wellness and health center. All units are reserved for seniors earning up to 60 percent of area median income.

Montclare Senior Residences of North Lawndale, a new 120-unit affordable senior housing complex, opened at 4339-4317 W. 18th Place on the West Side. The $27.7 million project includes a mix of studio and one-bedroom apartments. All but 12 units are reserved for seniors earning up to 60 percent of area median income while the other units are leased at market rate. On site support services include personal care and daily living activities including housekeeping, meals, recreation and heath and wellness services.

The Michael J. Fizgerald Apartments was developed by Elderly Housing Development and Operations. The Monclare Senior Residences was developed by Montclare Senior Residences SLF of Lawndale.

These projects are part of the city’s five-year housing plan which commits $1.3 billion to build, rehabilitate or preserve 41,000 affordable housing units by the end of 2018.
