The Association of Industrial Real Estate Broker’s (AIRE) recently announced five finalists for this year’s Frank Mahoney Award. The winner of the award will be selected Oct. 13 at Gene & Georgetti as AIRE celebrates the 25th anniversary of the presentation of the first award.

The five finalists include: Steve Ostrowski, JLL; Jared Paff, Transwestern; Cal Payne, CBRE; Ryan Phillips, Transwestern; and Gavin Stainthorpe, NelsonHill.

Nomination letters written by their industry peers and colleagues, upon additional factors, were considered when narrowing the list down to these potential candidates. AIRE provided the following excerpts:

Steve Ostrowski, JLL—According to Tom Rodeno, Colliers, “I have worked with many people in multiple industries over my 20+ year professional career and have never worked with a more honest, genuine and ethical person than Steve. Steve is selfless and serves others above himself and personifies the concept of ‘collaboration’. Above all, he is someone that can be ‘TRUSTED’.”

Jared Paff, Transwestern—“It is clear that his clients have been well-informed on the market and have been given all the information necessary to make educated real estate decisions for their business,” said Sam Badger, SIOR, NAI Hiffman. “He approaches negotiations with an open and creative mind and is a broker that always looks for the ‘win-win’ solution.”

Cal Payne, CBRE—“Cal has all of the credentials and personality to receive the award to further advance his career in industrial brokerage,” said Ron Behm, Colliers. “I have witnessed Cal’s interactions outside of work and his personal skills are credible and captivating. Cal will make a long-term commitment and fine addition to our Chicago Industrial community.”

Ryan Phillips, Transwestern—“Ryan would be an excellent candidate for the Frank Mahoney Award …because he is a prime example of how AIRE members should conduct themselves in our community,” said Adam Haefner, Darwin Realty. “He maintains a reputation amongst the membership for being easy to work with. Ryan’s integrity amongst clients and brokers is second to none.”

Gavin Stainthorpe, NelsonHill—“Gavin is client-driven to the nth degree, which is demonstrated by his focus on the deal and not the commission,” said Brian Ripp, Strauss Realty. “Perhaps most important, his behavior is unfailingly ethical. The highest compliment I can pay any broker is to say they are a colleague, not a principal. Gavin is definitely my colleague.”

“As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of this award, I am very excited about the incredible depth of quality and caliber of this year’s finalists,” said Scott Duerkop, the 2015 AIRE president and a vice president at JLL. “Each of these candidates can be proud of their accomplishments to date and look forward to great success in the association and within the industry.”

Last year, Kelly Gray, vice president of JLL, was named winner of the 2014 Frank Mahoney Award of Excellence.

Lately, CIP has been keeping up with AIRE's celebration of the 25th anniversary of the presentation, sharing latest news on the award’s legacy:

The Frank Mahoney Award recognizes outstanding leadership, community service and real estate brokerage success among young industrial real estate professionals—those with less than seven years of experience. The award was established as an annual award to recognize a young industrial real estate professional who embodies the character traits displayed by Frank Mahoney.
