Victor SeneseVictor Senese has joined Bear Construction as project executive at the firm’s Rolling Meadows location.

With his 31 years of experience, he will lead consulting engagements for Bear Construction requiring healthcare strategies and solutions.

He has a civil engineering degree from Marquette University.


Cy RangelReed Construction has hired Cy Rangel as project executive.

As a team leader and project executive, Rangel will oversee ongoing construction projects as well as spearhead the firm’s business development and project management teams for ground-up construction projects.

Prior to joining Reed, Rangel served as managing director for JLL Construction, a full-service construction management group where he oversaw business development, estimating, purchasing, construction management, accounting and client relations. He has been responsible for more than 4.5 million square feet of construction in Chicago, Ohio, New Mexico and Montana throughout his career.


Vanessa CourtneyRightsize Facility Performance has hired Vanessa Courtney as account manager.

Courtney will be based in the firm’s Loop office, working with Rightsize clients who are in transition. As the main point of contact, she will manage the Design/Furnish process on behalf of clients, ensuring that the office transition is seamless and that product is delivered and installed on time and within budget.

With 10 years of furniture sales experience at Ethan Allen and Restoration Hardware, she was most recently a territory design account manager at Ebanista Inc. She earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Harrington College of Design.


Dan ShookDan Shook has been named a regional account manager for Greater Illinois Title Company.

Shook started his career at Real Estate Index Inc. a division of Fidelity National Title Group, where he was responsible for residential and commercial business development. He was a Million Dollar Club Award winner for seven straight years and was later promoted to director of sales.

After a brief period in the pharmaceutical industry, Shook worked for Prairie Title as an account executive and in 2013 joined Meridian Title Corporation as a senior account manager. Shook’s territory will include Kane, Will, Kendall and parts of Du Page County.


Meredith LewisChicago-based Golub & Company has promoted Meredith Lewis from the position of director of human resources to vice president of human resources.

Lewis has been with Golub & Company for six years and manages all aspects of the human resources function for the company’s U.S. employee base including employee relations, staffing, compensation, benefits, legal compliance and performance management.

Lewis earned her Bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western Michigan University and holds a Senior Professional Human Resources certificate. She is an active member of the Chicago Society of HR Professionals, Human Resources Management Association of Chicago and Society of HR Management.


Walter ZyznieuskiWalter Zyznieuski has been named a senior planning manager in the Chicago office of Parsons Brinckerhoff.

In his new position, Zyznieuski provides planning and environmental support for rail and highway projects in Illinois. Zyznieuski joins Parsons Brinckerhoff after serving for nearly 35 years with public agencies in Illinois.

For the past 20 years he was with the Illinois Department of Transportation, most recently serving as acting chief of environment.  He has also held senior positions with City Water Light and Power, the municipal utility of Springfield, Ill., and the Illinois Department of Energy and Natural Resources.


Heather MartinHeather Martin has joined Rightsize Facility Performance as merchandise manager, team leader with RFP’s Office Furniture Center brand.

In her position, she will spearhead the firm’s product offerings, showroom appearance, inside sales department and eventually the company’s e-commerce business.

She was most recently the product development manager at Arhaus, a national residential furniture company, where she handled the turnaround of underperforming showrooms as well as new product development and showroom merchandising. Martin earned a Bachelor’s degree in interior design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.


Jim BlakeReed Construction has hired Jim Blake as senior project superintendent.

Blake was previously a superintendent with JLL’s construction services team. He has more than 35 years of construction field management experience with an extensive construction background in ground-up and interior tenant build outs for the industrial, medical, office and educational sectors.

As a senior project superintendent for Reed, Blake will serve as an on-site project supervisor and as a leader for the field construction team.


Andrew KellyAndrew G. Kelly has joined Transwestern’s tenant advisory services team as executive vice president.

The 18-year industry veteran specializes in large professional services firms with multiple locations and has completed more than 3 million square feet of deals valued at more than $1 billion.

Most recently, Kelly served as a principal at Advocate Advisors. He began his career at Studley Inc., spending more than 15 years with the firm. His client roster includes K&L Gates, Heidrich & Struggles, Orbitz, Punch Bowl Social and Latham & Watkins. Kelly earned his bachelor’s degree in real estate finance from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.


Dan CharlestonBellwether Enterprise Real Estate Capital LLC has hired Dan Charleston as senior vice president.

Charleston will be based in the company’s Chicago office as part of its origination team. Charleston joins Bellwether Enterprise from Key Bank Real Estate Capital, where he worked as a permanent product specialist responsible for multifamily loan origination with bank and third party capital sources in the Midwest. He has extensive borrower relationships and experience utilizing Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA and CMBS lending sources.

Charleston is a graduate of Bradley University and holds a master’s degree in management from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He is a member of the Illinois CPA Society and an active participant over the last 25 years in multiple industry trade groups and associations including the Mortgage Bankers Association of America, National Multi-Housing Council, Chicago Real Estate Council and Real Estate Investment Association.


Tim TraceySmithGroupJJR has named Tim Tracey as director of its Chicago office.

He was previously the office’s design director.  Tracey will focus on strengthening the office’s holistic and integrated design process. He takes over leadership of the 60-person office from Andy Vazzano, who now resumes his focus on the firm’s Science & Technology practice.

Tracey is also a member of the Lean Construction Institute Chicago Community of Practice Core Group. Founded in 1997, LCI’s purpose is to reform the management of production in design, engineering and construction for capital facilities. Tracey joined SmithGroupJJR’s Chicago office in 2010 as design director for the architecture practice. He is a graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture.


Alex RuggieriAlex Ruggieri was recognized by Sperry Van Ness at their annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas, with a special Ambassador Award.

Ruggieri serves as senior advisor for Sperry Van Ness/Ramshaw Real Estate based in Champaign. The Ambassador Award is given every year to an advisor who embodies the Sperry Van Ness culture and helps contribute to the success of the entire Sperry Van Ness organization. Ruggieri promotes the trade through his media work locally, regionally and nationally.

Ruggieri has more than 33 years of commercial real estate industry experience. He is recognized as a top 10 Advisor with Sperry Van Ness and was the recipient of the Partner's Circle Award in 2007, 2012 and 2013, the company's highest sales award.


Mark BusseyMark J. Bussey has joined Krusinski Construction Company as senior project superintendent.

Bussey’s first project is a high-end office build-out for NAV Consulting Inc. in Oakbrook Terrace. The project aims to consolidate three existing office suites by removing walls and floors, finishes and ceilings to accommodate NAV’s unique office layout.

Bussey’s previous experience includes six years at Skender Construction where, as a healthcare manager, he completed multiple projects for Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Bussey is an active member of the American Society of Healthcare Engineers, Healthcare Engineers Society of Northern Illinois and ASA Chicago.


Connor DohertyBlueprint Healthcare Real Estate Advisors has hired Connor Doherty as an associate.

Doherty brings an established real estate track record to Blueprint, having exclusively listed more than 150 properties for clients and generated more than $150 million in investment sales since 2011. Prior to his position at Blueprint, Doherty was an investment manager at Chicago-based Pearson Realty Group.

At Blueprint, Doherty’s main focus will be providing real estate solutions for both investors and operators of independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing and CCRC properties in Ohio and surrounding markets. Doherty resides in Chicago and has a degree in urban planning from Miami University, where he was a four-year member of the men’s golf team.


America GarciaMorgante-Wilson Architects Ltd. has promoted America Garcia to associate from project manager.

Garcia joined the Evanston, Ill.-based firm in 2004 as a consultant. Garcia is currently the project lead on the design of a number of second-home residences, including a 7,500-square foot, new-construction vacation home in Union Pier, Mich., as well as a two-story custom lakehouse in Green Lake, Wis.

She is also managing the construction of a  beachfront retreat in Watersound, Fla. Garcia has collaborated on a number of high-profile designs, including a 13,000-square-foot residence in Winnetka, Ill. featured last year in Chicago Luxe magazine. Garcia received her bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Notre Dame.


Todd VezzaTodd Vezza has joined Zilber Property Group as director of industrial investments.

Vezza will be responsible for expanding Zilber Property Group's industrial portfolio through development and acquisition activity in the Chicago and southeastern Wisconsin markets.

Vezza has more than 17 years of experience acquiring, disposing and leasing industrial real estate. Most recently he served as senior vice president of investments for CenterPoint Properties. Vezza earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Pennsylvania State University and earned his master’s degree in business administration from Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management.


Shawn HalsteadShawn Halstead has joined MC Industrial as a senior estimator.

With nearly 30 years of industry experience, Halstead will be responsible for estimating construction projects in Northwest Indiana, the Chicago area and nationwide. Halstead comes to MC Industrial having worked for large general contracting firms throughout his career in the construction industry.

He has nearly 30 years of experience estimating large capital construction projects in the power generation, petrochemical, chemical, automotive and steel industries. Most recently, Halstead successfully estimated projects for Northern Indiana Public Services, British Petroleum, Otter Tail Power Company and Duke Energy. He studied construction management at Purdue University.

Daly offers a full range of brokerage services including tenant representation, owner representation, build-to-suit projects, site selection and investment acquisition and disposition. His primary area of concentration is in the O’Hare and West Cook submarkets.

Prior to working at Darwin, Daly was a sales executive at Acquirent, an outsourced sales company, and also spent time at BJB Properties. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Marquette University.


SAMSUNG CSCNovak Construction has hired Mike Flinchum as a senior project manager.

Flinchum has 18 years of experience in project and construction activities in diverse technical and healthcare sectors. His project/construction management experience includes managing construction safety programs for owners/general contractor, creating project schedules and directing work quality from initial project inception to successful completion/close-out.

Flinchum is proficient in estimating, bidding, budgeting, change orders, quality control and materials management/sourcing. He has proven abilities in coordinating the complete spectrum of project management functions from proposal development to contract negotiations.


Joseph BurnsJoseph G. Burns, a managing principal at Thornton Tomasetti, has been named an SEI Fellow by Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Burns joined Thornton Tomasetti in 1995, and has more than 30 years of experience designing structures and investigating and renovating existing buildings. He specializes in the design of complex structural systems, including earthquake engineering and dynamic analysis for a variety of project types such as education, aviation, performing arts, retail, hotels and museums.

A graduate of the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. with a bachelor’s degree in architecture, Burns also holds master’s degrees in architecture and civil engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge.


Angie WallinAngie Wallin has joined BKV Group as business development executive in Chicago.

Wallin is an accomplished interior designer and entrepreneur with more than 25 years of experience in design, architecture, construction and development.

Bradley MigdalBradley Migdal has joined Transwestern as executive managing director.

Migdal, a 10-year industry veteran, will lead Transwestern’s industrial site selection and business incentives practice in the Rosemont office. Migdal’s expertise is in domestic site selection, location analysis and economic incentives procurement. Most recently, Migdal worked as a managing director with Newmark Grubb Knight Frank’s global corporate services consulting practice, based in Chicago. He previously worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and Deloitte Tax LLP.

Prior to working in real estate, Migdal practiced law with a focus in commercial litigation at a Chicago law firm and with the litigation bureau for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue in Boston. He holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Juris Doctor from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago and a Master of Law in taxation from the Boston University School of Law.


Adam KarrasAdam Karras has joined Commercial In-Sites LLC as senior broker in the industrial/commercial markets.

Karras is licensed in Indiana and Illinois and provides industrial property buyer and tenant representation plus industrial site acquisition, leasing, sale and build-to-suit services to third parties.  Karras has spent the last six years with Paine/Wetzel Associates as an Indiana specialist.  During that time, Karras worked to bring several high profile companies to Northwest Indiana, which has translated into several million dollars of new investment and local jobs.

Karras has been recognized as a site selector for the State of Indiana, works closely with the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and several southern Indiana economic development entities.  Karras is a native of Northwest Indiana and a graduate of Culver Military Academy and Indiana University.


SNovak Construction Company has appointed Michael W. Kanzler as the company’s chief financial and operations officer.

Kanzler brings more than three decades of sophisticated finance experience to his new role, having previously led the financial and accounting spheres for highly successful privately-held firms, including the Chicago-based Ty Inc. and Optima Inc.

Kanzler earned a bachelor’s degree in accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is a certified public accountant and holds Series 7 & 63 certifications.


Paul HinkfussIrgens has hired Paul J. Hinkfuss as general counsel.

In this position, Hinkfuss will provide legal guidance and expertise in the areas of real estate development, leasing, governmental permitting, construction law, zoning and brokerage compliance. Hinkfuss’ responsibilities include: consulting on partnerships, joint ventures and tax compliance pertaining to Irgens and its affiliates; setting and coordinating policies for leases, legal agreements, contracts and other regulatory issues and directing outside counsel.

Throughout his career, Hinkfuss has completed numerous complex business transactions involving the acquisition, financing, ownership, operation and disposition of all types of commercial real estate. Before joining Irgens, Hinkfuss served as assistant general counsel at a regional development firm and was a shareholder and an associate with other local law firms. He graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School where he earned the Order of the Coif.


Raj GuptaRaj P. Gupta, CEO of Environmental Systems Design Inc., has been elected to the Board of Trustees at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

IIT’s programs include engineering, architecture, the sciences, humanities, business, law and design. "Raj Gupta's three decades of experience in engineering, design and leadership provides a valuable addition to the IIT Board of Trustees,” said John L. Anderson, President IIT.

“Gupta's experience as a leader and innovator in mechanical engineering and building design will help position IIT as a leading academic institution that continues to prepare students for the challenges and opportunities ahead," he added.


Brett GriffinEnvironmental Systems Design Inc. has promoted Brett Griffin to vice president.

Since his arrival at ESD in 2006, Griffin has been a key member of the firm’s Mission Critical Facilities Group as a mechanical engineer and project manager. His experience extends across design and commissioning services.

Griffin is a professional engineer in the State of California and LEED accredited professional.  He was recognized in 2013 by Consulting Specifying Engineer magazine as one of the industry’s Top 40 Under 40. Griffin has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.


Wes KoontzOakbrook Terrace-based Mid-America Real Estate Corporation has hired Wes Koontz as director of net lease investment sales.

In this new position, Koontz will continue to grow Mid-America’s net lease investment sales platform in the Midwest. Koontz previously worked at Mid-America for three and half years with the tenant representation team, and has extensive real estate experience during a more than 12-year career in the business.

His positions included investment sales at Colliers International in San Francisco, corporate services work with Weber Wood Medinger of Cleveland and principal investing with RCK Capital Investments of Chicago. Koontz attended Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Penn. and has been a designated CCIM since 2005.


Will McConnellHOK has named Will McConnell as its new regional healthcare practice leader in Chicago.

McConnell, a vice president at HOK, has 20 years of experience in the planning, design and delivery of healthcare and research facilities. His projects have included the Wexner Medical Center Cancer and Critical Care Tower at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Ill.

McConnell’s experience as a project architect and project manager includes a variety of delivery methods, including public-private partnerships, design-build and integrated project delivery. McConnell holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Carnegie Mellon University.


Christopher LiuWright Heerema Architects has hired Christopher Liu as the firm’s director of interior design.

With nearly 30 years of knowledge in the design industry, Liu will oversee the planning, design and management of all WHA interior design efforts.

His experience with projects that are diverse in size, scope and industry – including corporate, advertising, finance, law and healthcare facilities – will complement WHA’s interiors’ practice.


Reggie LaRueReggie LaRue has joined Swansea, Ill.-based Holland Construction Services as the site safety and health officer for the Memorial Hospital East project.

LaRue brings 15 years of experience as a safety management professional to his new position.

Most recently he served as the site safety supervisor for GRP Mechanical in Bethalto, Ill., and as director of safety and education for the Southern Illinois Builders Association.


Josh GepnerEnvironmental Systems Design Inc. has promoted Josh Gepner to vice president.

Gepner joined ESD in 2009 with a background in designing electrical systems for commercial, residential and industrial facilities. He specializes in commissioning projects for mission critical facilities and is a demonstrated leader across all other market sectors.

A professional engineer in the State of Illinois, LEED accredited professional (LEED AP O+M) and qualified commissioning process provider (QCxP), Gepner has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Boston University.


David FriedmanDavid J. Friedman has joined Conor Commercial Real Estate as president of the company’s national real estate development and investment firm.

Friedman has nearly 30 years of experience.   Prior to joining Conor Commercial, Friedman served as managing director at ARES Management LLC.  In his previous role, he led the firm’s subordinated debt and joint venture equity strategy.  Friedman also served as a senior managing director for Sterling Real Estate Partners where he led the firm’s real estate investment arm and managed a national asset portfolio including data center, land (entitled and unentitled), industrial, office building and student housing investments.

As president of Conor Commercial Real Estate, Friedman will provide operational leadership and strategic direction for the firm’s real estate team and portfolio including land parcels together with industrial, office, healthcare and multifamily developments.  He will also support Conor Commercial’s pursuit to continue its expansion into new market segments and geographical areas.


Jason McCargoEnvironmental Systems Design Inc. has promoted Jason McCargo to vice president.

McCargo has been a key member of ESD’s workplace solutions team since 2006. As a project manager and advisor, he works closely with contractors to develop integrated solutions for clients while supporting the professional growth of his teammates.

He is a LEED accredited professional with a bachelor’s degree in industrial design from Appalachian State University.


Tim BrinkTimothy W. Brink is a new partner at Meltzer, Purtill & Stelle LLC.

Brink focuses his practice on bankruptcy, restructuring, insolvency and creditors’ rights matters.

He regularly represents banks, investment funds and other financial institutions, trade creditors, landlords and other unsecured creditors, official committees, debtors and liquidating trustees in all aspects of chapter 11 reorganizations and liquidation cases.


James DippingEnvironmental Systems Design Inc. has promoted James Dipping to vice president.

Dipping joined ESD in 2009. He coordinates the plumbing-related staff for all plumbing projects throughout the company. He is also a frequent participant in industry activities, publishing articles as well as conducting webinars and presentations through the American Society of Plumbing Engineers.

Dipping is a professional engineer in the State of Illinois, a certified plumbing designer, a LEED accredited professional (LEED AP, BD+C), and an American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association accredited professional. He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from University of Illinois at Chicago.


David LiebmanDavid L. Liebman has joined Chicago-based Merit Partners LLC as managing broker.

In one of his first assignments, Liebman will join the leasing team for the 1.5 million-square-foot, 21-acre former Marshall Field’s industrial campus at 4000 W. Diversey Ave. on the northwest side of Chicago. Liebman also will provide independent industrial property buyer and tenant representation plus industrial site acquisition, leasing, sale and build-to-suit services to third parties.

Liebman began his real estate career in 1989 as an industrial broker at CB Richard Ellis, where he earned the company’s “Rookie of the Year” award in 1990.  After an 11-year stint at CB, he worked for 12 years with the Industrial Advisory Group at Colliers International, specializing in the northeastern Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin markets.  Prior to joining Merit, Liebman served as senior vice president of Op2mize LLC, where he specialized in industrial brokerage, energy procurement and sustainability initiatives.


Robert MullerRobert Muller has joined architecture firm Goettsch Partners as an associate principal and senior designer in the Chicago office.

In this role, Muller will be responsible for the design of many of the firm’s projects, with a focus on office, residential, hospitality and mixed-use buildings. Muller has 16 years of professional experience working on similar buildings, as well as corporate headquarters, academic, institutional and transportation projects, both in the U.S. and overseas.

Muller previously worked at Solomon Cordwell Buenz and Murphy/Jahn. He holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture with honors from the University of Cincinnati. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and a LEED accredited rofessional.


Jacquelyn FaransoSVN | Chicago Commercial has hired Jacquelyn Faranso as an associate advisor,

Faranso specializes in the sales and leasing of office property in Chicago’s Loop, River North and the surrounding neighborhoods. Prior to joining SVN, Faranso served as a tenant rep broker for Tenant Advisory Group LLC. Her responsibilities included new business development, relationship management and executing transactions.

In less than two years, Faranso worked and closed deals approximating to more than 80,000 square feet. In addition, Faranso was named one of the women of the year by the National Association of Professional Women in 2014.


Zach SlagleZach Slagle has joined Matanky Realty Group.

Slagle graduated from Texas Tech with bachelor’s degree in business administration and is a fully licensed real estate broker in Illinois.


Jim WilsonRightsize Facility Performance has named Jim Wilson director of business development.

Wilson brings a wealth of industry experience to the position having most recently served as vice president of real estate services at IMG Technologies. There he was responsible for originating contracts for more than 30 million square feet of properties for technology related services.

Before that he was business development manager with Kastle Systems. Wilson is a graduate of Northern Illinois University and an active member of BOMA Chicago and the Chicago Real Estate Network.


Aaron AbelsonBerkadia Commercial Mortgage LLC has hired Aaron Abelson as senior vice president in the company’s Chicago office.

Abelson brings nearly 20 years of industry experience to Berkadia’s conventional origination team. Most recently, Abelson served as senior vice president for Alliant Capital LLC. In this role, he helped build and manage the team for Alliant’s Midwest commercial real estate finance business, focusing on agency lending. He personally originated and closed more than $450 million in transactions.

Prior to that, he spent four years at HSBC Bank USA N.A. as a senior vice president and Midwest regional manager. There, he managed the Midwest commercial real estate finance business team, who originated permanent, fixed-rate apartment loans through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for local and regional clients.


C.J. LoosPircher, Nichols & Meeks has hired C.J. Loos as a new associate in the Chicago office.

Loos’ background includes a variety of legal projects, with emphasis on corporate and real estate law. Loos is a former summer associate of Pircher, Nichols & Meeks, where she worked with commercial leases and purchase and sale agreements. During this time, Loos also conducted research regarding legal standards, environmental liability and fraudulent conveyances.

Prior to joining Pircher in a full-time capacity, Loos was an associate with Sidley Austin LLP, where her practice focused on mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and corporate law. Among other projects, Loos gained experience as counsel to issuers and underwriters in various securities transactions. Additionally, Loos conducted research in several areas, including matters of corporate and securities law.


Ray LaHoodGhafari Associates has engaged Ray LaHood, former U.S. Department of Transportation secretary, in an advisory role.

In this capacity, he will assist Ghafari in strengthening its foothold in the infrastructure and industrial sectors as the firm pursues new opportunities and markets both domestically and abroad. LaHood, who recently joined global law firm DLA Piper as a senior policy advisor, spent 36 years working in public service. As the 16th Department of Transportation secretary from 2009 to 2013, he oversaw an agency with more than 55,000 employees and a $70 billion budget in charge of air, maritime and surface transportation.

Prior to heading the Department of Transportation, LaHood represented the 18th District of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2009. During this time, he served on various House committees, including the House Appropriations Committee.


Jessica ParksJessica A. Parks has joined Northern Trust Corp. as vice president and senior relationship manager, focusing on commercial real estate lending.

Prior to Northern Trust, Parks was a commercial real estate relationship manager at U.S. Bank and a commercial loan representative - national real estate at Park National Bank.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance from the University of Iowa Henry B. Tippie College of Business.


Lynn PattersonRightsize Facility Performance has named Lynn Patterson business development manager.

Patterson, a 20-year business development veteran, previously served as a senior sales specialist at office plant and landscaping specialists Ambius, where in 2009 she was named to the President’s Club for being the number one salesperson.

Patterson earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University.


Scott MaeselScott R. Maesel of Sperry Van Ness Chicago Commercial has been named as recipient of the Sperry Van Ness Partner’s Circle Award.

Maesel’s contribution helped to elevate SVN | Chicago Commercial to Firm of the Year and No. 3 among all SVN offices across the nation. Maesel serves as managing director for Sperry Van Ness in Chicago. He was awarded the Sperry Van Ness Achiever’s Award in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and has received numerous other awards over his more than 20 years of industry experience.

Maesel is president of the Advisory Council for the Mary Bartelme Park in the West Loop, and serves on The West Loop Organization’s Board of Directors. He and his partners expanded Sperry Van Ness Chicago Commercial from 10 to more than 45 advisors, serving all commercial product types both locally and nationally.


Gina FortuneThe Laramar Group has hired Gina Fortune-Harmon as area vice president.

From Laramar’s corporate headquarters in Chicago, Fortune-Harmon will oversee a portfolio consisting of approximately 2,700 apartment homes in the Midwest region. Prior to joining Laramar, Fortune-Harmon served as the vice president of the Midwest region for Riverstone Residential Group, a multifamily management firm.  During her tenure, she was responsible for the overall operational and financial aspects of the portfolio, as well as business development to expand their presence in the region.

Prior to Riverstone, Fortune-Harmon worked for Group One Investments, a real estate investment company, as the director of property and asset management, in which she was accountable for the strategic direction and portfolio management of assets from acquisition through disposition.


James HodurJames Hodur of Coldwell Banker Commercial NRT has been awarded the Office Sales Unit award from the Chicago Association of Realtors CommercialForum.

This marks the second year Hodur has earned this distinguished award.


The Chicago Association of Realtor’s Commercial Forum awarded Essex Realty Group Inc. with multiple honors at its 2013 event.

Essex received five of the nine multifamily sales awards given. Kate Varde and Doug Imber received the Platinum Award for multifamily sales as a team.  Doug Fisher and Matt Welke each received multiple individual awards for multifamily volume and multifamily units.

This is the fifth time Imber has been recognized for this prestigious award.  Fisher and Welke have also been recognized multiple times, and it is Varde’s first time being honored by Commercial Forum.

Rosen has worked with KTR since 2009 and was previously an associate on the investments team covering the Midwest region and the Seattle market. He has worked his entire career at KTR.


Don VitekWirtz Realty Corporation has appointed Don Vitek senior vice president, responsible for overseeing the company’s full real estate portfolio.

Vitek brings nearly three decades of experience in property management to Wirtz’s real estate holdings, which include luxury properties along Chicago’s lakefront, as well as commercial assets throughout the city and suburbs. Vitek most recently served as senior vice president of the Real Estate Management Group at Draper and Kramer. During his 16 years there, Vitek oversaw more than 35,000 residential units and 4 million square feet of commercial space.

He also implemented a number of operational changes, improving the property management process, while also overseeing major capital projects, which helped to increase operating income for the portfolio. Vitek spent more than a decade managing all of the firm’s acquisition and development activities. He previously worked for Household Commercial, a subsidiary of HSBC, where he built a portfolio and rehabilitated residential properties across seven states, and at Inland Real Estate Investment Corporation.


Martin SachsMartin Sachs, regional vice president and executive general adjuster, is heading up Alex N. Sill Company’s new office in Highwood,Ill.

Sachs’ 35 years of industry experience includes working as an adjuster for the Allstate Corporation as well as serving as an independent adjuster for several insurance companies. Since 2004, he has been a licensed public adjuster exclusively representing the commercial insurance policyholder.

Nancy ValloneAttorneys’ Title Guaranty Fund Inc. has promoted Nancy R. Vallone to president, The Judicial Sales Corporation.

Prior to joining TJSC, a subsidiary of ATG, in October 1991, Vallone was a special commissioner of the federal court for six years.

Vallone has conducted more than 20,000 foreclosure sales and has more than 30 years of experience in the mortgage foreclosure industry.


Joseph CliggottJoseph Cliggott has joined the Chicago office of HDR Architecture Inc. as managing principal.

In this role, Cliggott will lead the operations and business development functions of the office and oversee the expansion of HDR's presence in the greater Chicago region. Cliggott brings with him 18 years of experience in varying project types with work spanning three continents, most recently serving as a project manager at Rafael Vinoly Architects after spending more than nine years with Chicago-based Goettsch Partners.

Chris RogalaChris Rogala is the new president of Office Space Chicago.

As a 22-year veteran in Chicago's commercial real estate industry, Rogala started his career with Cushman & Wakefield in 1992.  In the summer of 2001 Rogala was named an executive vice president of ChicagoBroker specializing in representing both tenants and landlords in finding creative solutions to their real estate requirements.

Rogala specializes in office and retail leasing and sales representing both tenants and landlords.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in corporate communications from the University of Kansas.


Arden MinerAttorneys’ Title Guaranty Fund Inc. has promoted Arden K. Miner to president, ATG LegalServe Inc.

Miner, who joined ATG LegalServe in 2012, first worked as an attorney in the ATG legal and underwriting departments from 2001 to 2004. She was then promoted to senior manager of ATG’s underwriting and escrow departments.

Miner is a former member of the board of directors of the Illinois Land Title Association, a current member of the Illinois State Bar Association and Chicago Bar Association. She is also a past chair for the CBA Real Property Law Committee and current vice chair of the UPL and Multi-Disciplinary Law Committees.

Scott MerzStudley has promoted Scott Merz to associate director in its Chicago regional office.

DTZ has appointed Adam Stanley as global chief information officer.

Stanley will be responsible for the firm’s technology systems and infrastructure across all of DTZ’s business globally. He will provide strategic and operational direction for DTZ technology and work across its global regions to further drive innovation and fuel the growth the company is experiencing in property services

Stanley’s 20-plus years of career experience include several global and U.S. assignments with budget and resource responsibilities. He joins DTZ after serving as global CTO and global CISO for Aviva PLC based in London, a FTSE 100 insurer and asset manager and the world’s sixth largest insurer. Prior to Aviva, Stanley was global chief technology officer of Aon.


Michael WiedenBarnett Capital Ltd. has hired Michael Wieden as manager of the firm’s real estate finance and distressed debt solutions platform.

Wieden arrives at Barnett Capital with more than a decade of experience in the industry, having spent the previous nine years in commercial mortgage banking at Chicago-based Cohen Financial, where he was instrumental in the placement of more than $1 billion in real estate financing.

Wieden holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin at Madison with majors in accounting, real estate and risk management.

Annie WelschAnnie Welsch has joined the landlord leasing team at Avison Young as a vice president.

Welsch joins Avison Young from MB Real Estate, where she worked as a leasing associate in the firm’s downtown agency practice group. She is joining Avison Young as the downtown leasing group has added nearly 4 million square feet to its portfolio of buildings.

Welsch will be responsible for all aspects of agency leasing including development of marketing and leasing strategies for the existing portfolio of buildings.

Tjarksen brings 30 years of industry experience to Kiser Group. In 2008, Tjarksen founded Chicago-based STAR LLC, a national real estate firm she continues to operate that specializes in receivership, asset management, debt restructuring, refinance and brokerage services. As managing partner at Aries Real Estate Development in Chicago, she consults on all areas of real estate development. Previously, she held management positions at real estate development companies in Florida and Chicago.

Tjarksen has expertise in operating and managing real estate in receiverships and bankruptcy. During the course of her career, Tjarksen has planned, built, designed, financed and delivered projects totaling more than $1.5 billion in revenue. Working with private clients and institutional firms, she has successfully zoned, built and sold 12,000 residential units, 2,500 hotel rooms and more than 1 million square feet of retail and office space.


Kirstin RogersBradford Allen Realty Services has hired Kirstin Rogers as a director in its Chicago tenant representation practice.

In addition to tenant representation, Rogers will work with the firm’s corporate services team on business development strategy projects for tenants, owners and investors. Rogers most recently worked as a senior proposal manager and business development manager for Jones Lang LaSalle. At Jones Lang LaSalle, Rogers handled strategy management and proposal execution for global clients such as ACS, AT&T, Cisco, Deutsche Bank, Iron Mountain, Lenovo, Microsoft and Philips.

Alex RuggieriAlex Ruggieri of Sperry Van Ness/Ramshaw Real Estate was recently named as a recipient of the 2013 Sperry Van Ness Partner’s Circle Award and recognized as a top advisor.

The SVN organization has nearly 900 advisors nationwide and Ruggieri was ranked within the top 10 advisors. Of these advisors, only 10 receive the Partner’s Circle Award each year, the company’s highest sales award.

Ruggieri serves as senior advisor for Sperry Van Ness in Champaign. He was awarded the Partner’s Circle Award in 2007 and again in 2012. Ruggieri has been working in real estate for almost 40 years. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Champaign County Association of Realtors and the President’s Advisory Group for the National Association of Realtors.


Kim SisneyUrban Innovations has promoted Kim Sisney from director of operations to vice president of operations.

Sisney’s duties will consist of management and oversight for all aspects of Urban Innovations’ affordable housing operations. In her new role, Sisney will be responsible for overseeing area managers and facility maintenance managers; administration, financial performance and maintenance of the properties; and insurance claim management. She will also work on requests for reimbursement from replacement reserves, compliance with local regulations and codes and management of vendor contracts and national contracts.

Sisney has worked in the real estate industry for more than 20 years. She has worked in on-site management as well as in asset management and contract administration with the Illinois Housing Development Authority. Sisney holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Chicago State University.


Mike MarchalHolland Construction Services President Mike Marchal has been selected as the 2013 Outstanding Alumnus by the Department of Construction at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Marchal has worked in the construction industry for 20 years and has served as president of Holland Construction Services since 2011. Marchal serves on the boards of SIUE Construction Leadership Institute, United Way, Big Brothers Big Sisters, McKendree University, AGC and the Sept. 11 Memorial Walkway of Southern Illinois.

He is a mentor for the Regional Business Council Mentor Network Program as well as the Southwestern Illinois College Career Mentor Program. In 2012, Marchal was named to the St. Louis Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization and was also a recipient of the St. Louis Business Journal’s 40 under 40 award.


Anna AndersonVirgin Hotels has appointed Anna Anderson as general manager of Virgin Hotel Chicago, the brand’s debut property slated to open fall 2014.

Anderson, a long-time Chicago resident, brings with her more than 25 years of hotel management expertise. Anderson returns to Chicago from California where she acted as general manager for both the Mosaic Hotel Beverly Hills and Maison 140 Beverly Hills in Los Angeles. Prior to these positions, Anderson was general manager of Albuquerque’s only full service boutique hotel, The Hotel Andaluz.

Prior to her time with The Hotel Andaluz, Anderson was the general manager of the Iron Horse Hotel in Milwaukee. From 2006 to 2007 she served as the hotel manager for Hotel Sax in downtown Chicago. Anderson has a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant administration from Washington State University.


Steve GolumbeckPeak Construction Corporation has hired Steve Golumbeck as senior project manager.

Golumbeck has 14 years of project management experience spanning various markets. He is a LEED accredited professional and has a bachelor’s degree in construction engineering from Iowa State University.

His most notable projects include the Sears Centre Arena’s 250,000-square-foot concert/sports arena, Wirtz Beverage Inc.’s automated warehouse and corporate headquarters and the Isle of Capri Casino’s hotel, casino and convention center.


Louis VavaroutsosArchitecture firm Goettsch Partners has promoted Elias Vavaroutsos to principal.

Vavaroutsos is also a senior project designer in the firm. He has worked on a range of project types, including office, corporate headquarters, hospitality, mixed-use, institutional, academic, science and technology, health care and aviation projects.

Peter MuntzMarcus & Millichap Capital Corp. has named Peter Muntz director in the firm’s Chicago downtown office.

Muntz will be responsible for sourcing, underwriting and obtaining debt and equity financing for all asset classes of commercial real estate nationwide. Prior to joining MMCC, Muntz served as a distressed debt acquisition and asset management specialist for Colony Capital LLC.

He was also a vice president for Origin Capital where he focused on acquisitions, development and asset management, a CMBS loan originator for Bridger Commercial Funding and a senior construction loan analyst at American National Bank.

Mark HouserBridge Development Partners LLC has appointed Mark Houser as senior director of development.

He was previously founder and president of Edgewood Development Corp. (formerly EquityOne Development Corp.) since 1995.

Bridge also appointed Robert Dahlgren to senior director of portfolio management.

Dahlgren will oversee the firm’s Chicago-area investments. He previously served as president of RJD Property Advisors LLC and senior portfolio manager for the former Grubb & Ellis.
