30-year CRE industry veteran, Craig Bloomfield, passes away

Craig Bloomfield, a business content and communications specialist with more than 30 years’ experience, passed away unexpectedly early Sunday morning.

Bloomfield’s experience includes 15 years as a writer and editor of publications serving commercial and multifamily real estate, technology and retail merchandising. Since 2000 he worked in marketing and public relations on behalf of commercial real estate, technology, financial services and law firms. Bloomfield was a life-long Chicago-area resident, except for his years at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, where he received a bachelor’s degree in journalism.

From 1987 to 1999, Bloomfield wrote on behalf of Gralla Publications for Commercial Property News, Kitchen & Bath Business, National Jeweler, Multi-Housing News and other publications, continuing the same position when Gralla became part of Miller Freeman. Over the years, he had various roles at Weber Shandwick, JLL and elsewhere overseeing marketing, business communications, message development, article development and other communications strategies, with a deep knowledge of commercial real estate, construction, energy and sustainability. He often worked in collaboration with marketing services companies such as Akrete, Belniak Media and KTPR Communications.

“Across the board, Craig is considered one of the best commercial real estate writers over the last few decades in the business,” said Margy Sweeney, founder and CEO of Akrete. “Since Craig and I met in the mid-1990s, we swam in the same waters professionally, and grew to be personal friends. He was a reporter I pitched, a client I served, a collaborator and key member of my team as my business grew, ruthless editor and commiserator extraordinaire. Most of all, I’m proud to have called him a mentor and a friend.”

A wake In remembrance of Bloomfield will be held on Friday, December 6, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Norris Segert Funeral Home, 132 Fremont Street, West Chicago, Illinois. Funeral Services will be conducted at the same location on Saturday, December 7 at 10:00 am.
