Waterton, a Chicago-based real estate investor and operator, has appointed industry veteran Peg Blackall as vice president of design and construction to oversee the firm’s architectural, design and construction processes.

A licensed architect with more than 20 years of experience directing design, construction and due diligence for hospitality, retail and residential projects, Blackall has vetted, assembled and managed design and construction teams for projects totaling over $600 million. In her new position, she will develop programing, budgets, schedules and manage complex construction projects. She specializes in resolving architectural and construction conflicts while maintaining design and budget integrity.

“We are thrilled to have someone of Peg’s caliber join the Waterton team,” said David Schwartz, CEO, chairman and co-founder of Waterton. “Our growing multifamily portfolio and recent acquisition of seniors housing company, Pathway to Living, along with our objective of growing our hospitality portfolio have presented renovation and development opportunities that will benefit from the expertise Peg has demonstrated throughout her long career.”

Prior to joining Waterton, Blackall was director of project management at Cushman & Wakefield in Chattanooga, Tennessee where she was responsible for the project management of over 2.2 million square feet of main campuses and new field offices for corporate clients in approximately 30 locations per year.

Blackall was formerly vice president of development for Ford Fry Restaurants in Atlanta where she provided strategic planning in expanding the company’s portfolio in the Southeast. Prior to that she was vice president of design and development at Scout Capital in New York, where she directed a design team of land planners, architects, engineers, interior designers, construction companies and internal construction departments for historic hotels, beach resorts, restaurants, retail grocery, schools and private residences. These projects included new build, renovation and expansions with complex regulatory permitting and entitlements.

“I am excited to join the team of professionals at Waterton who understand that design management is fundamental to the success of every project,” said Blackall. “I look forward to enhancing the design standards that Waterton is known for and working on a variety of exciting product types and projects.”
