TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2009
by Chicago Industrial Properties ReportsWisconsinFrito-Lay will invest $28.5 million in various facility related mechanical and technology-intensive equipment to expand their manufacturing capacities. Frito-Lay's 131-acre, 550,000-square-foot campus manufactures and distributes six different products. This expansion project retains approximately 500 full-time positions and creates the opportunity to add roughly 25 new jobs, as well. To facilitate this project, the State of Wisconsin provided a $2 million award. In addition to this expansion news, Frito-Lay also announced their introduction into the State of Wisconsin's Green Tier program. Green Tier companies voluntarily commit to heightened environmental performance standards. During the last five years, Beloit's Frito-Lay Green Team has achieved impressive environmental milestones, including: a 99% landfill-free site, reduced natural gas emissions by 27%, decreased water consumption by 50% and an overall reduction in greenhouse gases by 17%. These achievements, as well as others, positions the Beloit Frito-Lay facility to be LEED-certified by 2010. According to James Otterstein, Rock County economic development manager, "This project speaks volumes about the strategic supply chain connections that are linked to a Janesville-Beloit MSA location. The ability to utilize Wisconsin-based raw materials, coupled with a congestion free transportation network, enables Frito-Lay to service a seven state territory. This announcement also sends positive signals regarding Rock County's overall economic climate." More Articles
