Livonia Phoenix LLC, an entity consisting of real estate
companies Grand/Sakwa Properties, Lormax Stern Development and Konover South, recently broke ground for the new Livonia Marketplace retail center.

The former Livonia Mall site in Livonia, Mich., will be home to an open-air retail center. Wal-Mart will anchor the center, which will feature more than 325,000 square feet of retail space.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in late August.

"The groundbreaking signifies the completion of the demolition of the old Livonia Mall, and celebrates the start of construction for the new Livonia Marketplace," said Karl Zarbo of Livonia Phoenix. "We are proud to be a part of the rebirth and rejuvenation of this area and to serve the citizens of Livonia with an outstanding shopping experience."

Livonia Marketplace will include a new Wal-Mart Supercenter accompanied by five additional multi-tenant buildings. Set on more than 40 acres, the project will feature architectural amenities with plentiful landscaping, designed to be harmonious with the area's surroundings.

Wal-Mart construction is scheduled to start later this year, with all work set to finish in 12 to 18 months.
