McShane Construction Co. has reached the completion of Phase One of the new 348-unit Senior Star at Weber Place located at 600 and 605 S. Edward Drive in Romeoville, Ill. on behalf of owner, Senior Star Living. The first phase consists of a two-story, 44,354-square-foot Memory Care facility, featuring 77 Memory Care apartments that recently opened to residents.

The Memory Care facility offers progressive building design elements, such as the implementation of life skills stations and Snozelen rooms that offer soothing, sensory experiences that provide the autonomy and support for people living with the challenges of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Additionally, the development offers residents on-site podiatry, dentistry, neuropsychology physician services and 24-hour nursing care. The Memory Care portion features six different floor plans with residences ranging in size from 224 square feet to 343 square feet. Each room has a private half bath, while multiple shower and spa retreats are located throughout the building.

The second phase of construction encompasses a 360,720-square-foot, three-story residential building offering a total of 271 independent living and assisted living apartments. McShane has completed the exterior of the senior residence, and interior construction is progressing on schedule for a Fall 2009 completion. Senior Star Living plans to open the assisted living and independent living portion of the development on January 1, 2010.

McShane Construction will also complete all site work for the complex, including attractive landscaping, walking paths and outdoor seating areas. Eppstein Uhen Architects, Inc. is providing architectural services for the project.
