Stevens County to seek bids for $15 million building and renovation plan

by Mike Moran
Minnesota

The Stevens County Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 to accept bids for its $15 million building and renovation plan that includes a controversial new jail.

The architect for the project is Klein McCarthy Architects with Contegrity Group serving as the project manager. The two have also been asked by a board vote to develop two preliminary optional plans for the project that do not include a jail following public outcry against that part of the project.

The call for bids comes at a time when projects in other counties have been receiving favorable bids as low as 20 percent under estimates and will be used as a gauge to see if the project is viable.
