Spring set for construction of Hastings, Minn., veterans home

by Mike Moran
Minnesota

Construction may start as early as this spring on a planned $10 million supportive-housing project in Hastings, Minn., to address the needs of homeless military veterans.

The 60-unit project will be built on the Hastings Veterans Home 128-acre campus near the Vermillion River and will provide 200 beds for veterans. Residents of the home will also be afforded 24-hour nursing care, nutritional help, sobriety maintenance and vocational counseling.

Funding for the project will be provided by Minnesota Housing, which obtained $7.8 million in general obligation bonds. In addition, $2.2 million will come from Minnesota Housing's Ending Long-Term Homelessness Initiative Fund and the Dakota County Housing Opportunity Program, which gave a $300,000 grant.
