The new ice arena
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community has completed construction on a second sheet of ice in the arena attached to the Dakotah! Sports and Fitness center near Mystic Lake Casino.

Located just south of the Twin Cities, the Dakotah! Ice Center incorporates natural materials to make it one of the greenest buildings in the metro area.

Shingobee Builders and HTG Architects developed the arena, which features 71,294 square feet for its NHL-sized ice arena. A compressor system and heat exchanger within the new arena redirects heat from the ice-making equipment to the bleachers to heat the concrete floor.

The bleachers in the arena are made of 100 percent recycled high-density polyethylene plastic from milk jugs, shampoo bottles and other plastic containers. The arena also features a 32,658-square-foot green roof.
