Lund Food Holdings, Inc., has announced plans for a full-service Lunds supermarket in downtown St. Paul, Minn., at 10th and Robert Streets.

Lund signed a long-term lease agreement with Penfield Development, LLC, for the approximately 30,000-square-foot supermarket, which will be on the main level of the Penfield, a full city block development.

The $88 million Penfield development, expected to include an upscale apartment complex and a 170 room Hyatt Place Select Service hotel, is slated to being construction in fall 2009. The 208 unit apartment tower, incorporating glass, stone and steel for a modern design, will have one- and two-bedroom units from 694 square feet to over 1,148 square feet.

"This is a major step forward for downtown. Attaching an amenity like Lunds to the Penfield brings a new level of excitement to an already great development," Mayor Chris Coleman said. "Increasingly, downtown Saint Paul is becoming the choice for people wanting a place to live, work and play. This project shows that we can continue to grow during difficult times through wise investment. With the recent additions of new night life, housing and key rehabilitation and remodeling projects of downtown business properties, the future of downtown Saint Paul is bright."

Plans for the new Lund supermarket call for an urban-style, single-level space with a heavy emphasis on fresh food and premium prepared meals.

"Lunds is a mainstay for neighborhoods throughout the Twin Cities,
and this location will be no exception," said Bob Lux, a partner in
Penfield Development. "We are pleased to have them as a key anchor in the development."
