Columbia Sportswear to make Mall of America debut

by Walter Kovacs
Minneapolis-St. Paul

Columbia Sportswear Company will open a new 16,000-square-foot Columbia-branded retail store at Minneapolis' Mall of America on Nov. 21.

The store will feature Columbia apparel, footwear, accessories and equipment as well as the company's Sorel brand footwear.

"What better place than Minnesota and Mall of America to introduce outdoor enthusiasts to all of the great products Columbia Sportswear and Sorel have to help people get outside and enjoy their activities while staying protected from the elements?" Tim Boyle, president and chief executive officer said. "We are very excited to be opening our first U.S. Columbia-branded store outside of Oregon and introducing our authentic outdoor brands to the millions of visitors who shop each year at Mall of America."

A charitable donation will be made to the Conservation Alliance and Boundary Waters Wilderness Foundation as part of the opening week celebration. In addition, Dan Heaton, a professional off-road unicyclist, will perform on a customized Columbia cycling track on Nov. 22 and 23 in the Macy's Court near the store.
