Mike Caldarone returns to CTLGroup

CTLGroup, an engineering and materials science firm headquartered in Skokie, Illinois, has welcomed Mike Caldarone back to the company as a principal engineer in the Skokie office. Caldarone brings with him 35 years of experience in concrete materials engineering and will support the materials and consulting team efforts on the field and in the office.

Caldarone’s responsibilities at CTLGroup include conducting engineering analyses and investigations to provide consultation, generating business to ensure group profitability, exploring and developing new markets, as well as aiding in the development of junior staff through mentoring and coaching. Additionally, Caldarone will support in developing proposals, including project scopes, budgets and schedules, managing multiple projects within a specified timeline and budget, scheduling, coordinating, delegating project work and preparing project reports.

Prior to joining CTLGroup, Caldarone has held several engineering positions in the materials engineering industry such as the vice president of engineering for a consulting group and an independent engineer. Most recently, he was the senior concrete engineer for a Denver-based infrastructure engineering company where he devoted the majority of his time offering technical support to the company projects throughout the United States and Canada as well as mentored engineers at the company with as assortment of engineering disciplines.

“Mike is a knowledgeable professional with many great projects and experience behind him,” CTLGroup’s chief executive officer, Brian Schudiske said. “He has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and proficiency in managing large projects. I am optimistic Mike will fabricate and implement strategic plans to help CTLGroup achieve their goals as well as pose as a go-to professional to teach those willing to learn. Caldarone holds a bachelor of science in engineering from University of Illinois at Chicago. He has been an active member of the American Concrete Institute for 34 years, where he was a former chair of the American Concrete Institute Committee 363 on High-Strength Concrete. In 2001, Caldarone was a co-recipient of the American Concrete Institute Medal for Materials Research. He is also a U.S. patent holder and author of the textbook, “High-Strength Concrete: A Practical Guide.”

As a previous employee of CTLGroup, Caldarone served as the principal engineer on many major projects such as the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge in Nevada; the world’s longest floating bridge, the SR 520 Bridge outside of Seattle; the world’s first Supertall building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Big Dig, located in Boston.
