Leading real estate partner joins Latham & Watkins in Chicago

Latham & Watkins LLP announced that Robert Fernandez has joined the firm’s Chicago office as a partner in the corporate department and member of the real estate practice. Fernandez represents clients on a range of sophisticated real estate transactions, with a particular focus on financings, acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, commercial leasing and real estate development.

“Bob is a widely respected and accomplished real estate lawyer, and we are thrilled to welcome him to our expanding global practice,” said Robert Buday, global co-chair of Latham’s real estate practice. “His experience advising on large, complex real estate transactions across asset types is perfectly complementary to our platform. The diversity of Bob’s practice, including handling both debt and equity transactions, and representing large institutional lenders as well as real estate investors and borrowers, will be of tremendous value to our clients.”

Fernandez’s real estate financing experience includes a variety of senior debt, mezzanine and equity financings involving investment funds, REITs, biomedical research facilities, industrial real estate properties, hotels, office buildings and shopping center developments throughout the U.S. Additionally, his experience in commercial real estate acquisitions, dispositions and joint ventures covers a variety of asset types, including high-rise offices, hotels and resorts, multifamily developments, industrial facilities, data centers, medical offices and retail properties.

Fernandez joins Latham & Watkins from Dentons in Chicago. He received his JD from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and his BA from DePaul University.
