Meridian Design Build recently began construction on an 84,000-square-foot USDA meat processing plant for Amylu Foods. The new facility will located in the heart of Chicago’s Stockyards Industrial Park at 1400 W. 44th Street.
The new sausage processing facility will include 56,000 square feet of production/cold storage space, a -10 °F freezer, and 16,500 square feet of two-story corporate office space featuring separate raw and cooked employee facilities, laboratory and test kitchen functions. The project is being completed on a design-build basis with architectural services provided by Harris Architects. Civil engineering services are being provided by Kimley-Horn.
Meridian’s work on the project includes the design and installation of process systems necessary to support production equipment including steam, sanitation, compressed air, venting and process gas. An expandable central ammonia refrigeration plant is being provided to accommodate plant cooling and production loads.
