Summit Design selected as general contractor for storage facility

Summit Design + Build, LLC, has been selected as general contractor for Martinez Produce & Seafood, Inc.’s new 22,000-square-foot freezer/cooler/dry storage facility at 340 N. Sacramento in Chicago.

According to Adam Miller, president of Summit Design + Build, the produce and seafood wholesale distributor purchased the property, which was partially erected in 2000, with only the foundations, precast walls and structural steel having been completed. Summit Design + Build has been retained to complete the construction of the building which includes a 5,000-square-foot freezer, 5,900 square feet of cooler space, 2,500 square feet of dry storage and 2,267 square feet of office space with a mezzanine. The existing openings for four recessed truck docks and one drive-in door are being incorporated into the design to accommodate Martinez’s distribution requirements. In order to meet the City of Chicago storm water requirements, a detention pond is also being incorporated into the site work along with all new utilities and parking.

Summit Design + Build’s Dave Mooney, project manager, Pat J. Lynn, project engineer, and Phil Larsen, superintendent, will be responsible for the on-site construction of Martinez Produce & Seafood, Inc. Cornerstone Architects is providing architectural services. Completion is scheduled for Spring 2011.
