Bemidji, Minn.-based Kraus-Anderson Construction Company will soon begin construction on a 25,000-square-foot photovoltaic solar panel plant for Mountain Iron Economic Development Authority in Mountain Iron, Minn. The $3.6 million project also includes solar panel equipment.

Silicon Energy MN will manufacture the solar panels. Silicon Energy MN will become the second manufacturer of photovoltaic solar panels in Minnesota, and will be the first tenant in the Mountain Iron Renewable Energy Park.

Construction will begin this summer and will be completed for occupancy next year. Plans call for 15 full-time employees, with the potential for additional jobs as production expands.

Photovoltaic solar panels convert sunlight directly into electricity. The durable, double-glass panels are designed to increase performance by shedding off rain, dirt, snow and ice. Light passes between cells, providing numerous applications, including awnings, patio covers, carports and covered walk-ways.
